Schmidt Lab

The Schmidt lab employs computational research methods to:

  • Identify novel risk factors for disease onset and progression.
  • Prioritise druggable targets to inform (pre-)clinical drug development.
  • Evaluate and improve predictive models.

Researchers within the lab focus on cardiovascular disease (CVD), as well as diseases and conditions which predispose people to develop progressive CVD. Recognising that people with established CVD are at risk of developing disease in non-cardiac organs we also conduct research on cardiometabolic and neurocognitive diseases, as well as multimorbidity in general.

In our research we routinely leverage data on:

  • Rare and common human genetics,
  • Electronic healthcare records and longitudinal biobanks,
  • Tissue-specific omics, including proteomics,
  • Physiological measurements such as electrocardiogram,
  • Imaging modalities such as MRI and echocardiogram.

The lab is led by Dr A. Floriaan Schmidt, and is spread across University College London (UCL) and Amsterdam University Medical Centre (AUMC).

Work With Us

We are open to collaborations with industry and commercial partners. Whether you are looking to apply research to real-world problems, looking to conduct multi-modal research, co-develop tools, or explore consulting arrangements, we would love to hear from you.
